Character Blockout Challenge: Saturday Morning Cartoons
Learn how to build a stronger stylized character from the ground up using a simple, repeatable blockout process.
In this challenge, I walk you through my approach to character blockout using a Saturday morning cartoon theme. You’ll see how I break down a classic cartoon character, using Pink Panther as the main example, and focus on the big shapes, proportions, silhouette, flow, and appeal before getting lost in the details.
This is the stage where most character sculpts are won or lost. A strong blockout gives you a clear foundation to build on, helps you avoid overworking weak shapes, and makes the final sculpt feel more intentional.
Inside the challenge, you’ll get:
• 3.5 hours of blockout training
• A full Pink Panther blockout walkthrough
• 2.5 hours of live feedback replay from the original challenge
• Bonus: George Zaky blocking out the Tasmanian Devil in Blender
• Bonus: Mentorship feedback session focused on improving silhouette, flow, and visual focus
This is a great fit if you want to get better at starting stylized characters, simplifying complex designs, and making your work feel more appealing before moving into polish.
Software is less important than the thought process. The goal is to help you see and build better shapes, no matter what tool you prefer.
